CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Corn, soy barge bids rebound slightly

CHICAGO, March 26 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn and soybeans delivered by barge to the U.S. Gulf Coast rebounded slightly on Wednesday, traders said.

Barge freight rates remained firm, as barge traffic has slowed on the Mississippi River near St. Louis due to navigation restrictions, traders said.

Traders are waiting for the U.S. Department of Agriculture to report weekly U.S. grain and soy export sales on Thursday and estimates for U.S. crop plantings on Monday.

U.S. export sales are estimated to be 600,000 to 1.6 million metric tons for corn and 300,000 to 900,000 metric tons for soybeans in the week ended on March 20, analysts said.

Traders also continue to monitor trade disputes that threaten U.S. farm exports.

President Donald Trump said he would be willing to reduce tariffs to get a deal done with TikTok's Chinese parent. China is the world's biggest soybean importer.

Agriculture industry executives criticized a Trump administration plan for big fees on China-linked ships entering U.S. ports, arguing the move would hobble their ability to export crops. A study by Trade Partnership Worldwide found the fees could reduce U.S. soybean exports by as much as 42.2%.

CIF Gulf soybean barges loaded in March were bid at 83 cents over CBOT May SK25 soybean futures, unchanged from Tuesday. April soy barges were bid at about 76 cents over futures, which was also steady.

FOB export premiums for soybeans shipped from the Gulf in May, the first month available, were offered at about 87 cents over May futures.

CIF Gulf corn barges loaded in March were bid at 74 cents over CBOT May CK25 corn futures, and April corn barges were bid at 70 cents over futures. Both were 2 cents higher.

FOB export premiums for corn shipped from the Gulf in April were about 80 cents over futures. Offers for May corn shipments were about 76 cents over futures.
