CHICAGO, March 26 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn and soybeans held mostly steady in the U.S. Midwest on Wednesday, while futures tipped down as traders positioned ahead of next week's U.S. Department of Agriculture report on quarterly stocks and seedings.
The corn basis edged down at an Ohio rail terminal. Corn and soy basis bids were steady elsewhere.
Trading volume for corn and soy futures has been thin as uncertainty ahead of major USDA reports and the implementation of tariffs created a risk-off environment.
According to a Reuters poll of analysts on Tuesday, the average estimate for corn in the USDA's planting intentions report, due March 31, was 94.361 million acres, up from the 90.594 million acres planted in 2024, according to the agency.
The average trade estimate for soybeans was 83.762 million acres, which would be down from 2024's 87.050 million acres.
Chicago Board of Trade May corn futures CK25 settled down 6-1/2 cents at $4.51-1/4, while May soybeans SK25 ended down 3/4 cent at $10.01 a bushel.
