CBOT soybeans flat with lowered planting expectations

- Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures traded near flat on Wednesday as a U.S. Department of Agriculture report was expected to show farmers planning to decrease the number of soybean acres they plant in 2025.

  • CBOT May soybeans SK25 settled down 3/4 cent to $10.01 per bushel.

  • CBOT May soymeal SMK25 ended $1.50 lower at $293.60 per short ton and May soyoil BOK25 rose 0.34 cent to 42.64 cents per pound.

  • The USDA's planting intentions report, due on March 31, is expected to show U.S. farmers planning to plant 83.762 million acres of soybeans this year, down from 87.050 million acres planted in 2024, according to a Reuters poll of analysts.

  • Seasonal showers in the Midwest and northern Delta should favor soybean growth in the next 31-60 days, according to Maxar.

  • Analysts said traders are monitoring tariff negotiations between the United States and its leading agricultural trading partners: Canada, Mexico and China.
