CHICAGO, March 25 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn and soybeans at processors, river terminals and ethanol plants in the U.S. Midwest increased as buyers were forced to pay premiums for the crops after farmer selling ground to a halt, analysts said.
Spot soybean bids increased at a processor and three river terminals. The basis decreased at an elevator.
Corn basis bids increased at three river terminals and three ethanol plants.
Preparations for spring planting are in full swing, and farmers are not focused on selling their crops, dealers said.
Soybeans futures edged down on declining Chinese demand for U.S. soy amid the China-U.S. trade spat and Brazil's advancing bumper harvest.
Corn futures fell as traders liquidated long positions ahead of the implementation of new U.S. tariffs and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's March 31 planting surveys, with expectations that farmers will plant more corn.
Chicago Board of Trade May corn futures CK25 were down 6-1/2 cents to $4.58 per bushel. May soybeans SK25 were down 6-3/4 cents to $10.00-1/2 a bushel.
