NORDIC POWER-Front-quarter steady as dry weather outlook counters higher temperatures

ReutersMar 20, 2025 12:07 PM

- Nordic front-quarter power prices were flat on Thursday as drier weather forecasts countered pressure from an above-average temperature view in the hydropower-reliant region.

The Nordic front-quarter baseload power contract ENOFBLQc1 remained unchanged at 24.7 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), as of 1103 GMT.

Nordic front-year prices ENOFBLYc1 rose 0.7% at 37.4 euros per MWh, their highest since February 12.

The Nordic weather outlook seems quite mild, dry and calm. This is bullish news for the Nordic power market, but is largely offset by the fact that above-average temperatures are expected for the next few days, limiting demand significantly, Energi Danmark analysts said in a note.

Nordic water reserves available 15 days ahead PCAEC00 were seen at 9.69 terawatt hours (TWh) above normal, compared with 12 TWh on Wednesday.

"The next few days will be dry and rather mild with sunny intervals. Temperatures will be near or slightly above normal," said LSEG meteorologist Georg Muller.

Dutch and British wholesale gas prices were down following a rebound in the previous session, amid warmer weather and as the market continued to monitor any progress in Ukraine-Russia ceasefire talks. NG/EU

In the European carbon market, the benchmark contract CFI2Zc1 shed 0.41 euros to 73.03 euros a tonne.

German year-ahead power TRDEBYc1 dropped 0.29 euros to 86.7 per MWh.

The Nordic power price for next-day physical delivery FXSYSAL=NPX, or system price, was up 29.93 euros to 57.48 euros per MWh.
