NORDIC POWER-Forward prices tick up on higher German power rates

ReutersMar 10, 2025 11:48 AM

- Nordic forward prices edged higher on Monday, driven by gains in the German power markets amid forecasts of colder weather over the coming week.

The Nordic front-quarter baseload power contract ENOFBLQc1 rose 0.25 euros to 21.25 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) as of 1039 GMT.

Nordic front-year prices ENOFBLYc1 gained 0.3 euros to 36.5 euros per MWh.

"Prices are ranging today a little bit up and down and I think it's motivated by higher German prices," said Ivan Fore Svegaarden, chief meteorologist at TradeWpower AS.

The market is going to be very uncertain ahead with U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff plans, and how that will affect consumption of LNG and gas, Svegaarden added.

"The next several days will be cooler than recently with near or even slightly below-normal temperatures and occasional precipitation, mostly falling as snow or sleet even in the lowland areas," said Georg Muller, a meteorologist at LSEG, in a note.

Dutch and British wholesale gas prices rose today, rebounding from lows late last week, on forecasts of lower temperatures and as Russian forces intensified attacks on Ukraine. NG/EU

In the European carbon market, the benchmark contract CFI2Zc1 rose 1.27 euros to 69.9 euros a tonne.

German year-ahead power TRDEBYc1 rose 1.05 euros to 83.35 euros per MWh.

The Nordic power price for next-day physical delivery FXSYSAL=NPX, or system price, rose 25.08 euros to 58.01 euros per MWh.
