US Cash Grains-Corn, soy basis mixed amid slow selling

ReutersMar 7, 2025 9:34 PM

- Spot basis bids for soybeans and corn were mixed in the U.S. Midwest on Friday as farmers were reluctant to sell their crop amid low futures prices, while buyers kept a close eye on U.S. trade policy.

The soy basis ticked up at an Iowa elevator and an Iowa crush plant.

The corn basis tipped down at an Illinois processor, an Iowa river terminal and an Illinois river terminal. The corn basis rose at an Iowa elevator.

Farmer selling has been slow as prices remain too low to encourage selling.

Chicago Board of Trade corn futures rose for a third straight session on Friday as news of exemptions for Mexico and Canada to most U.S. tariffs allowed grain prices to stabilize after a plunge early this week.

Soybean futures were flat to narrowly mixed.

The ongoing saga with U.S. tariffs remained the focus of the market. On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump suspended the tariffs he imposed days earlier on most goods from Canada and Mexico, the latest twist in a fluctuating trade policy.

CBOT May corn CK25 settled 5-1/4 cents higher at $4.69-1/4 per bushel.

May soybeans SK25 settled down 2-1/4 cents at $10.25 per bushel.
