US Cash Grains-Corn, soy basis steady-mixed as futures tumble

CHICAGO, March 4 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for soybeans and corn were steady to mixed in the U.S. Midwest on Tuesday as concerns over retaliatory Chinese tariffs on U.S. farm goods put pressure on Chicago Board of Trade futures.

Corn basis bids ticked down at a Nebraska elevator and ticked up at an Illinois river terminal.

The spot soybean basis increased at an Indiana processor and was steady elsewhere.

U.S. President Donald Trump's new 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada took effect on Tuesday, along with a doubling of duties on Chinese goods to 20%.

Grain markets are bracing for possible fallout from U.S. tariffs against Canada and Mexico.

Depressed corn and soy futures have discouraged farmer selling.

Chicago Board of Trade May corn futures CK25 were down 5-3/4 cents to $4.50 per bushel at midday. CBOT May soybeans SK25 fell 13-3/4 cents to $9.97-3/4 a bushel.
