CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Soybean barge bids mixed; spot corn bids weaken

CHICAGO, Dec 30 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn shipped by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast export terminals eased on Monday, while soy barge bids were mixed, traders said.

* Empty barge freight rates turned lower on the Illinois, Ohio and parts of the Mississippi River on Monday. BG/US

* Exporters sold 23,000 metric tons of U.S. soybean oil to India for delivery during the 2024/25 marketing year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said.

* Traders are monitoring weather in Argentina and in Brazil, where farmers are expected to harvest a record-large soybean crop, and watching for global export business to switch to South American suppliers from the U.S.

* On Sunday, the tug vessel Patrick J. Studdert and the vessel Clara B collided near mile marker 122 on the Mississippi River, the U.S. Coast Guard posted on X.

* Five people were rescued from the collision on the river and transferred to local emergency medical services, according to the post. The incident is under investigation.

* CIF soybean barges loaded in January traded at 90 cents over Chicago Board of Trade January soybean SF25 futures.

* Meanwhile, CIF soybean barges loaded in December were bid at 86 cents over Chicago Board of Trade January soybean SF25 futures, down 1 cent from Friday.

* FOB export premiums for January soybean shipments were offered at about 107 cents over futures, down 1 cent from Friday.

* CIF December corn barge bids were unquoted on Monday, but offered at 67 cents over CBOT March corn CH25 futures, down 2 cents from Friday. Meanwhile, January barges were bid at 67 cents over March corn futures, up 1 cent.

* FOB offers for corn shipped from the Gulf in January stayed steady at 86 cents over CBOT March corn futures.
