Transocean shares drop on $5.8 billion buyout of Valaris

Shares of oilfield services firm Transocean RIG.N fall 3.7% to $4.19 premarket; Valaris VAL.N up 21.8% at $76

RIG will acquire peer VAL in an all-stock deal valued at $5.8 billion

The deal represents a premium of 31.6% to Valaris' last close, according to Reuters calculation

Combined co to have a fleet of 73 rigs, including 33 ultra-deepwater drillships, nine semisubmersibles and 31 modern jackups

RIG will hold 53% of the combined firm and Valaris will hold the remaining 47%

In 2025, RIG was up 10.1%
