Nasdaq to Launch Short-Term Options for Big Tech and Bitcoin ETFs

TigerJan 21, 2026 5:50 AM

Nasdaq will offer short-term options for nine prominent tickers, including major technology companies and the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), starting January 26, 2026. These options will have Monday and Wednesday expirations, providing investors with more flexibility for short-term trading strategies.

The eligible tickers are Apple (AAPL), Amazon (AMZN), Broadcom (AVGO), Alphabet (GOOGL), Meta Platforms (META), Microsoft (MSFT), Nvidia (NVDA), Tesla (TSLA), and iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). Short-term options, typically expiring within a week, allow traders to quickly respond to market movements and hedge positions more efficiently compared with standard monthly options.

Earnings dates are excluded from these options to mitigate volatility risks. For example, Apple is scheduled to report earnings on January 29, 2026, while Meta, Microsoft, and Tesla will report on January 28. Amazon and Broadcom have earnings dates yet to be determined.

According to Nasdaq, these options will be tradable during regular market hours, enabling traders to implement weekly strategies without waiting for traditional monthly expirations. The addition of Monday and Wednesday expirations allows for precise hedging and tactical speculation around key market events.

The inclusion of IBIT highlights growing interest in cryptocurrency-linked derivatives, offering investors regulated exposure to Bitcoin through options. Market observers expect that both retail and institutional traders will leverage these short-term contracts to manage risk, exploit rapid price fluctuations, and execute advanced trading strategies.

This expansion reflects Nasdaq’s effort to enhance liquidity, provide more dynamic instruments, and respond to increasing demand from investors for innovative trading tools. By offering short-term options on high-volatility assets such as Big Tech and Bitcoin ETFs, Nasdaq aims to create a more flexible and responsive options market.
