LONDON STOCKS MUTED ON FINAL DAY OF THE YEAR
London and the few other European bourses open on Wednesday posted minimal declines, wrapping up a strong year for global stocks in typically quiet pre-holiday trading.
The UK's FTSE 100 .FTSE slipped 0.1%, with miner Fresnillo FRES.L - the index's top performer this year with a 450% surge - taking a breather as traders booked profits on silver and gold after CME raised margins again on precious metal futures.
The CAC 40 .FCHI in Paris was down 0.5%, while Amsterdam .AEX, Brussels .BFX, Madrid .IBEX, Lisbon .PSI20, and Dublin .IETP declined between 0.1 and 0.4%.
Trading will run for only half a day before the New Year holiday break.
