STOCKS STRUGGLE BEFORE LONG-AWAITED DATA DELUGE

European shares are trading on the softer side on Monday as investors prepare for long-awaited U.S. data following the reopening of the government last week.

Construction spending data from the Census Bureau is due later today, but investors were already turning their attention to September's labour market report which is scheduled for release on Thursday.

The pan-continental STOXX 600 .STOXX is down by just over 0.1%. Breadth is negative with decliners outnumbering advancing stocks by 2 to 1.

Major bourses in Frankfurt .GDAXI, Paris .FCHI and London .FTSE are also a touch softer.

The aerospace & defence sector .SXPARO is a bright spot, supported by a 6.5% rise in Saab SAABb.ST shares after the company signed a $3.6 billion fighter jet deal with Colombia.
