Sept 9 (Reuters) - Canada's commodity-heavy main stock index opened higher on Tuesday, led by gains in material and energy shares, while markets stayed optimistic about a potential interest rate cut from the Bank of Canada later this month.
At 9:30 a.m. ET (1330 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 0.20% at 29,084.61 points.
