US STOCKS GAIN IN EARLY TRADE WITH NVIDIA ON DECK
U.S. stocks are modestly higher in the early stages of trading on Wednesday, as investors await earnings from AI heavyweight Nvidia NVDA.O to see if the chipmaker can justify lofty valuations and the spending spree by companies developing the technology.
In a thin docket for economic data, investors will eye a $70 billion auction in five-year notes US5YT=RR after a $69 billion auction of two-year notes US2YT=RR saw solid demand on Tuesday.
The two-year yield is lower on Wednesday as investors continue to largely price in a rate cut from the Federal Reserve at its September meeting, and have shrugged off the back-and-forth surrounding Fed Governor Lisa Cook and the Trump administration's attempt to fire her.
On the S&P 500 .SPX sector front, Energy .SPNY, up about 0.8%, is the top performer, while Utilities .SPLRCU, off just 0.2%, is the weakest group.
