FUTURES MIXED AHEAD OF JACKSON HOLE

European stock futures were mixed as traders waited for the Federal Reserve's annual three-day Jackson Hole symposium, which kicks off later in the day, while investors fretted about the Fed's independence after yet another attack from President Trump.

One focus this week has been on whether Powell will push back against market expectations for a rate cut at the Fed’s September 16-17 meeting when he speaks tomorrow at the Jackson Hole meeting, following a weak jobs report for July.

In the meantime, Trump has called on Fed Governor Lisa Cook to resign.

Eurostoxx 50 futures STXEC1 and Dax futures FDXc1 were about flat, while FTSE futures FFIC1 edged 0.1% higher.

Euro zone flash PMIs are due later in the session.

In Italy, Mediobanca MDBI.MI Chief Executive Alberto Nagel faces a close shareholder vote on his proposed 6.8 billion euro ($7.9 billion) acquisition of Banca Generali GASI.MI to create Italy's second-largest wealth manager.
