BEFORE THE BELL: EUROPEAN FUTURES EDGE UP

European shares were set for modest gains at the open on Tuesday, supported by an extended tariff truce between China and the U.S., which lifted market sentiment ahead of key U.S. inflation data later in the day.

EuroSTOXX 50, DAX and FTSE futures edged higher by 0.1-0.3%, tracking a positive session in Asia that pushed Tokyo shares to a new record high, and saw Australia shares extend gains after the RBA cut rates by an expected quarter of a point.

Wall Street futures were just above parity, following Monday's slight declines as investors awaited the CPI report. U.S. consumer prices likely rose moderately in July, with a Reuters poll of economists pointing to a 0.2% rise.

In Europe, there were some earnings to digest.

Ladbrokes owner Entain ENT.L forecast an annual profit above market expectations, homebuilder Bellway BWY.L reported a 14.3% rise in home completions, while for the full year, while potash miner K+S SDFGn.DE sales missed expectations.

A share placement sent UBS shares down 1% in premarket trading.
