STOXX 600 FLAT, DEFENCE NAMES FALTER AS MARKETS EYE TRUMP-PUTIN TALKS
Europe's STOXX 600 is flat, with aerospace and defence stocks weighing while healthcare names cap any losses and some M&A news also moves the dial.
Arms makers shares are moving lower ahead of a planned meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
German companies Rheinmetall RHMG.DE, Renk R3NK.DE, and Hensoldt HAGG.DE are down between 2.7% and 3.7%. A basket of .SXPARO aerospace and defense names is off 1.8%, the worst performing sector in Europe.
The best off meanwhile is healthcare .SXDP, up 1% as Novo Nordisk .NOVOb.CO rises 2.6% and Italy's Recordati RECI.MI is up 2.4%.
But the biggest faller overall is Danish offshore wind developer Orsted ORSTED.CO which announced a $9.4 billion rights issue plan. Shares are down 27.2% at the bottom of the index.
In the UK, online trading platform Plus500 PLUSP.L shares are down 4.6% after half-year results and launching a $165 million share buyback.
On the M&A front, shares in Martin Sorrell's ad group S4 Capital SFOR.L are surging 9.7% after confirming merger talks with MSQ Partners.
Shares in Northern Data NB2.DE dropped 17% after Rumble RUM.O said it was considering making an offer ata discount for the German AI cloud group.
