ECONOMY

ISTAT releases July CPI final data (0800 GMT) and June foreign trade data (0900 GMT).

Bank of Italy releases June data on Italian residents' deposits with domestic banks, banks lending to non-financial companies and gross bad loans at Italian banks.

COMPANIES

MEDIOBANCA MDBI.MI, BANCA GENERALI BGN.MI

Leading governance adviser Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) said on Friday it was keeping its recommendation for Mediobanca shareholders to vote in favour of the buyout offer for Banca Generali at the meeting called on August 21.

Monday marks the cutoff date for Mediobanca shareholders to register in order to be able to take part in the August 21 vote.

(*) Proxy adviser Pirc has also recommended that Mediobanca shareholders cast a favorable vote at the meeting, daily La Repubblica reported on Sunday.

Four of the 10 Generali board members who were appointed in April in the slate of nominees filed by the insurer's top shareholder Mediobanca have confirmed in writing they had been informed of takeover plans for Banca Generali, Il Messaggero reported on Sunday citing unnamed sources.

(*) Preliminary estimates suggest around 33% of shareholders are in favour of the offer, Il Corriere della Sera reported on Monday. A successful bid will require 50.01% of the votes. Turnout is expected to be around 75-76%, the newspaper added.

Jefferies on Monday raised its rating on the Italian pharmaceutical company to "buy" from "hold", setting a target price of 61.5 euros from 55 euros previously.

BANKS/INSURERS

Italy's government is working on options to tighten the system of state guarantees for bank loans to small businesses, Il Sole 24 Ore reported on Sunday, adding one idea was to have companies take out insurance policies against catastrophes to access state-guaranteed loans and ask banks to check firms pay welfare contributions or meet anti-money laundering rules.
