S&P 500, NASDAQ EASE EARLY AFTER MONDAY RECORDS

The S&P 500 .SPX and Nasdaq .IXIC are lower in early trading Tuesday after hitting record closing highs in the previous session and as investors weighed trade talks between the U.S. and its trading partners. The Dow .DJI is up slightly.

There is an August 1 tariff deadline looming.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans to meet his Chinese counterpart next week and discuss what is likely an extension to the August 12 deadline set for tariffs on China.

Investors are also looking forward to more earnings reports this week, especially from some big tech-related names, with results so far for the second-quarter earnings season stronger than expected.

Technology .SPLRCT is the biggest drag on the S&P 500 in early trading, while healthcare .SPXHC is offering the most support.
