The following factors could affect Italian markets on Monday.

POLITICS

(*) The European Union has already prepared a list of tariffs worth 21 billion euros ($24.52 billion) on U.S. goods if the two sides fail to reach a trade deal, Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in a newspaper interview on Monday.

It is crucial to remain focused on trade negotiations with the United States and avoid further polarisation, Italy's prime minister's office said on Saturday in a statement after U.S. President Donald Trump announced 30% tariffs on European goods.

ECONOMY

Rome's economic growth is likely to have slowed in the second quarter due to lower consumer and investment spending, according to a central bank report published on Friday.

Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti on Friday criticised the country's banks for their focus on wealth management amid worrying signs of a contraction in lending to firms, and their poor investments in digital technologies.

COMPANIES

UNICREDIT CRDI.MI, BANCO BPM BAMI.MI

An Italian court has scrapped some of the conditions Rome had set to clear UniCredit's takeover offer for Banco BPM, but confirmed the validity of a request it stops operating in Russia - which the Milan-based lender could struggle to comply with.

(*) French bank Credit Agricole CAGR.PA said on Friday it was seeking approval from the European Central Bank to raise its stake in Italy's Banco BPM - which has also had bid interest from UniCredit - to just over 20%.

Mediobanca on Friday renewed its opposition to Monte dei Paschi's takeover offer, saying the price was "totally inadequate" and some 32% lower than what the bank's board deemed fair.

Monte dei Paschi's offer began on Monday and is due to end on September 8.

BPER BANCA EMII.MI, BANCA POPOLARE DI SONDRIO BPSI.MI

The bank has successfully closed its voluntary public tender and exchange offer for Banca Popolare di Sondrio, reaching 58.49% ownership, a stake that guarantees its full control, the company said on Friday

Stellantis and Ferrari Chairman John Elkann and his siblings Lapo and Ginevra have settled a tax dispute in Italy over the inheritance of their grandmother Marella Caracciolo, a spokesperson for the three brothers said on Sunday.

Italy's largest construction group said on Monday it had won an order worth 600 million dollars in Saudi Arabia to build a cultural and commercial centre in Diriyah.

LEONARDO LDOF.MI

The Italian defence group is open to supplying technology for drones but it does not plan to open a factory in Ukraine, the chief executive of the state-controlled defence group told daily Corriere della Sera in an interview published on Saturday.

ENI ENI.MI

Azule Energy, a partnership between BP BP.L and Eni ENI.MI in Angola, discovered gas in its first gas-specific exploration well off the country's shores, the national oil and gas agency ANGP said late on Friday.

The Italian eyewear maker has "the financial margins" to make an acquisition and is considering distributing dividends, its CEO Angelo Trocchia said in an interview with daily La Stampa on Monday.
