US STOCKS DIP AFTER LATEST TRUMP TARIFF VOLLEY

U.S. stocks are lower shortly after the opening bell on the final session of the trading week as President Donald Trump dialed up his tariff threats on Canadian imports.

Trump said the U.S. would impose a 35% tariff on imports next month and said he planned to impose blanket tariffs of 15% or 20% on most other trading partners.

Meanwhile, the European Union braced for a possible letter from Trump, outlining planned duties on his largest trade and investment partner after a broadening of his tariff war in recent days.

Still, major U.S. indexes remain near record levels, and analysts have noted in recent days investors have become more complacent about tariff announcements, in contrast to the sharp selloff sparked by Trump's initial unveiling of a wide array of tariffs on April 2.

On the sector front, tech .SPLRCT is among the outperformers, but is only able to muster a gain of roughly 0.3% while materials .SPLRCM is the worst performing group, dropping more than 1% with all but one component in negative territory on the session.
