** Shares of Meta Platforms Inc META.O rising 3% on Mon after the social media co said it was introducing ads to its WhatsApp instant messaging platform
** "Subscriptions, promotions and ads will appear only on the Updates tab, away from your personal chats. This means if you only use WhatsApp to chat with friends and loved ones, there will be no change to your experience at all," Meta said in a news release
** Meta in 2014 bought WhatsApp for $19 bln, but it has made only minor moves to monetize the platform, such as charging businesses for some features
** META up 20% YTD vs Nasdaq's .IXIC 2% increase, and the stock is ~5% below its 52-week intraday high on February 14
