Turkey - Factors to watch on June 16
ISTANBUL, June 16 (Reuters) - Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Monday.
The lira TRYTOM=D3 traded at 39.4905 against the U.S. dollar at 0502 GMT, compared with a close of 39.429 on Friday.
The main BIST 100 share index .XU100 closed 2.19% lower at 9,311.88 points on Friday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Asian markets kept their nerve on Monday and oil prices climbed anew as the conflict between Israel and Iran showed no sign of cooling, adding geopolitical uncertainty to the world's economic troubles in a week packed with central bank meetings. The escalation came just as Group of Seven leaders were gathering in Canada with U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs already straining ties.
ISRAEL-IRAN CONFLICT
Iranian missiles struck Israel's Tel Aviv and the port city of Haifa in an early morning raid on Monday, destroying homes and fuelling concerns among world leaders at this week's G7 meeting that the battle between the two old enemies could lead to a broader regional conflict.
ERDOGAN CALLS
Turkey's President Tayyip Erdogan told U.S. President Donald Trump in a phone call on Sunday that Ankara was ready to play a facilitator role to resolve the nuclear dispute that led to the conflict between Israel and Iran, Erdogan's office said. The leaders also spoke on Saturday. Erdogan held several phone calls with regional leaders since the start of the conflict including with the Iranian counterpart.
CABINET
President Tayyip Erdogan will chair a meeting of the cabinet of ministers in Ankara before making a press statement (1200 GMT).
FOREIGN MINISTER
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent Turkey in a South East European Cooperation Process Summit in Tirana.
TRADE MINISTER
Trade Minister Omer Bolat will attend the opening ceremony of a Venezuela trade fair (0730 GMT) and then Turkey-Venezuela business forum (1130 GMT) in Istanbul.
OPPOSITION
Main opposition CHP leader Ozgur Ozel will attend a court hearing of jailed Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, and then visit him in prison in Istanbul's Silivri district (0700 GMT).
CURRENT ACCOUNT DATA TRCURA=ECI
The Turkish Central Bank will announce current account data for April (0700 GMT).
CENTRAL BANK SURVEY
The Central Bank will also release the results of its Market Participants Survey for June (0700 GMT).
TREASURY AUCTIONS
The Treasury will hold the first auction of four-year, CPI-indexed government bonds due on June 13, 2029. It will also reissue a two-year fixed coupon bond due on May 5, 2027.
