May 29 - (The Insurer) - Chubb has recruited Aspen’s UK-based international excess casualty head Paul Bland for the same role but based out of Bermuda, replacing Mike Warwicker, who retired from the carrier this month after more than five years with the company.
London and Bermuda-based broking and underwriting sources confirmed that Bland resigned from his role with Aspen on Tuesday and is to serve out a notice period before taking up his new post with Chubb Bermuda.
Bland had been Aspen’s head of international excess casualty after joining the company in January 2020 from Canopius Group, where he had spent more than five years as head of general liability for Lloyd’s Syndicate 1861.
He had a brief stint as a consultant for London-based intermediary Besso after underwriting stints at Markel, Liberty International Underwriters and AIG-owned surplus lines writer Lexington.
He also served as class underwriter for U.S. general liability at Catlin Syndicate at Lloyd’s.
His departure comes after Aspen completed its long-awaited return to the public markets earlier this month, with its stock beginning trading on the New York Stock Exchange on May 8.
As of Thursday afternoon, Aspen’s shares were trading up 6% from their listing price to $34.45.
Spokespersons for Aspen and Chubb did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
