EUROPEAN SHARES MIXED, ENERGY LAGS
Major European equity markets are mixed on Monday, with energy shares underperforming due to a decline in oil prices.
Europe's STOXX 600 .STOXX is little changed on the day, having risen above its April 2 close on Friday for the first time since Trump introduced tariffs on that day. Germany's DAX .GDAXI is up 0.3% while France's CAC 40 .FCHI is down 0.4%. British equity markets are closed for holiday.
Energy stocks underperform as Brent and WTI crude oil futures trade lower after sources said the OPEC+ group of oil exporters will accelerate output hikes, potentially bringing 2.2 million barrels per day of oil back to the market.
The STOXX Europe 600 oil & gas index .SXEP is down about 1.1% in early trade.
In corporate news, shares in Austrian lender Erste Group ERST.VI are up over 5% after they agreed to buy a 49% stake in Santander's SAN.MC Polish unit and a 50% stake in its Polish asset management business. Santander shares are up 0.4%.
