
May 1 (Reuters) - Canada's commodity-heavy main stock index opened lower on Thursday, led by losses in oil and gold stocks as a contraction in the U.S. economy heightened fears of weakening demand.
At 9:31 a.m. ET (1331 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was down 0.24% at 24,781.57 points.
