
April 23 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index opened higher on Wednesday as investors welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's assurance that he would not fire Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, along with his hints of a possible trade deal with China.
At 9:31 a.m. ET (1331 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX composite index .GSPTSE was up 1% at 24,558.95 points.
