Copper miners climb as US import tariff fears mount

U.S.-listed shares of copper miners rise premarket, tracking prices of the red metal

Copper futures on the U.S. Comex exchange HGc3 climbed 1.4% to $5.283, helped by rising bets on the level of import tariffs that President Donald Trump may impose on the metal; prices had hit a record high of $5.374 earlier in the day

Shares of global giants Rio Tinto RIO.N and BHP Group BHP.N climbed 0.6% and 1.3%, respectively

Southern Copper SCCO.N rises 0.8% and Freeport-McMoran FCX.N 1.4%

But Canadian miners Hudbay Minerals HBM.N and Teck Resources TECK.N fall 1.3% and 0.5% respectively
