WALL STREET TRIES FOR A REBOUND AS IT WAITS ON THE FED

The main U.S. stock indexes are rising slightly after Tuesday's selloff and ahead of the Federal Reserve policy update due later on Wednesday. Meanwhile, trading is choppy as investors are taking another look at the sectors that had sold off the most on Tuesday.

While the Fed is expected to keep rates unchanged at the end of its two-day meeting, investors will be hoping for some indication of potential rate cuts ahead.

Tech .SPLRCT is leading the way higher among S&P 500 .SPX sector with help from a more than 1% gain in shares of market heavyweight Nvidia, which lost 3.4% on Tuesday. Investors were digesting news from the AI chip leaders annual developer conference and its CEO's keynote address on Tuesday.

Consumer discretionary .SPLRCD is also among the top gainers. This was after it was one of the biggest losers in the prior session, marking its lowest close since mid-September.

Communication services .SPLRCL is also rallying on Wednesday after taking the biggest hit on Tuesday and ending at its lowest level since early November.

In consumer staples .SPLRCS, shares of General Mills GIS.N are leading losses, down more than 3%, after the Pillsbury food brand owner cut its annual sales and profit forecasts on choppy North American demand and competition for salty snacks and pet food. And the outlook excluded any tariff impact as the implementation dates and scope of the levies remained uncertain, it said.
