
Updates for markets open
Feb 19 (Reuters) - Indian shares opened lower on Wednesday, with pharma and auto stocks leading the decline in broad-based selling after U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff threats.
The Nifty 50 .NSEI fell 0.37% to 22,860.35 by 9:20 a.m. IST, while the BSE Sensex .BSESN lost 0.39% to 75,669.22.
Asian equities were mixed in early trading, with the MSCI Asia ex-Japan .MIAPJ0000PUS inching 0.2% lower after Trump said he would impose tariffs on auto, pharmaceuticals and semiconductor imports. MKTS/GLOB
The Nifty pharma index .NIPHARM fell 3%, while the auto index .NIFTYAUTO declined 0.7%.
All 13 major sectors were trading in negative territory. The broader, more domestically focussed small- .NIFSMCP100 and mid-caps .NIFMDCP100 fell 0.4% and 0.7%, respectively.
