Jan 23 (Reuters) - Australian shares are likely to open lower on Thursday on the back of possible losses in mining and energy stocks due to declining underlying commodity prices, as uncertainty around U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff plans linger.
The local share price index futures YAPcm1 fell 0.6% lower, a 52.8-point discount to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index .AXJO close. The benchmark rose 0.3% on Wednesday.
New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index .NZ50 was little changed at 13,022.27 points in early trade.
