Berkshire picks Gen Re Chair Shamieh as successor to insurance head Ajit Jain, WSJ reports

May 4 (Reuters) - Berkshire Hathaway BRKa.N has selected Gen Re Chairman Charlie Shamieh as successor to longtime insurance chief Ajit Jain, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter.
Shamieh will step in to run Berkshire's sprawling insurance arm when Jain, 74, decides to retire, the report said.
Reuters could not immediately verify the report. Berkshire Hathaway did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment.
