Russia condemns Israeli attack on Lebanon and calls for immediate ceasefire

MOSCOW, April 9 (Reuters) - Russia's foreign ministry on Thursday strongly condemned an Israeli attack on Lebanon and called for an immediate ceasefire.

It said such aggressive actions threaten to derail a negotiation process that is underway and risk further escalation in the region.

Israel carried out its heaviest strikes on Lebanon since the conflict with Hezbollah broke out last month, killing more than 250 people on Wednesday, as the Iran-aligned group resumed rocket attacks on northern Israel after a brief pause under the two-week U.S.-Iran ceasefire.
