- California awarded tax credits to 16 television projects including Emmy-winning medical drama "The Pitt" and a spinoff of animated comedy "Family Guy" as part of an effort to bring production back to the state, Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday.

  • The state, the home base of Hollywood, has been losing jobs to other locations around the world that offer tax incentives

  • California offered credits to animated and reality shows for the first time

  • Other projects receiving credits are competition show "SCHOOLED" and comedy series "I Love LA"

  • Credits are part of a $750 million program approved by state legislature and signed into law by Newsom

  • Newsom says the shows receiving credits are expected to generate $1.3 billion in statewide economic activity and employ more than 4,500 cast and crew plus more than 50,000 background performers
