California awards tax credits to 'The Pitt,' 'Family Guy' spinoff and more

LOS ANGELES, March 18 (Reuters) - California awarded tax credits to 16 television projects including Emmy-winning medical drama "The Pitt" and a spinoff of animated comedy "Family Guy" as part of an effort to bring production back to the state, Governor Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday.

The state, the home base of Hollywood, has been losing jobs to other locations around the world that offer tax incentives

California offered credits to animated and reality shows for the first time

Other projects receiving credits are competition show "SCHOOLED" and comedy series "I Love LA"

Credits are part of a $750 million program approved by state legislature and signed into law by Newsom

Newsom says the shows receiving credits are expected to generate $1.3 billion in statewide economic activity and employ more than 4,500 cast and crew plus more than 50,000 background performers
