BERLIN, March 18 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Wednesday he is in almost daily contact with British, French and Italian leaders on how a peace order can be sustained in the Middle East, once the war in Iran ends.
"If the right conditions are in place, then we will not shy away from a debate on freedom of navigation, for example in the Strait of Hormuz, once the war is over," Merz told the lower house of Germany's parliament.
He said he was in frequent discussions with France's Emmanuel Macron, Britain's Keir Starmer and Italy's Giorgia Meloni also on contributions to a lasting peace in the region, once hostilities have ended.
