BERLIN, March 16 (Reuters) - A German government spokesperson said on Monday that it was unclear whether the United States had made an official request for assistance in the Strait of Hormuz.
"I honestly don't know what to make of 'official requests' in this context," said the spokesperson at a regular government press conference when asked about an official assistance request from the U.S.
"However, I would like to remind you once again that neither the United States nor Israel consulted us before the war, and that Washington explicitly stated at the outset of the war that European assistance was neither necessary nor desired."
