March 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. ocean regulatory agency has determined that The Metals Company's TMC.O application for a deep-sea mining permit in the Pacific Ocean has met the requirements to advance in a review process, the Canadian miner said on Monday.
Separately, the International Seabed Authority opened its latest meeting in Jamaica to debate international deep-sea mining standards.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comments.
Here are some key details:
Earlier this year, TMC USA submitted the first-ever consolidated application for an exploration license and commercial recovery permit for polymetallic nodules in the Pacific Ocean, covering approximately 65,000 km².
The new process allows exploration-phase data to be incorporated directly into the commercial recovery review, streamlining the regulatory timeline.
TMC USA's exploration license applications are progressing as expected, with public comment periods now completed.
