China says it seeks communication with US but will hold its 'red lines'

BEIJING, March 4 (Reuters) - China is willing to work with the United States to promote communication on all levels while upholding its "red lines" and principles, Lou Qinjian, spokesperson for the national legislature, said on Wednesday.

China and the U.S. should respect each other and coexist peacefully, Lou said at a press conference. "China has its own principles and red lines, and as always, will resolutely defend its sovereignty, security and development interests," he said.

The National People's Congress opens its annual session on Thursday.
