FACTBOX-SpaceX acquires xAI: Key facts about the Musk-owned startups

ReutersFeb 3, 2026 2:20 PM

- Elon Musk said on Monday SpaceX has acquired his artificial intelligence startup xAI in a record-setting deal, unifying the billionaire's AI and space ambitions by combining the rocket-and-satellite company with the maker of the Grok chatbot.

The deal, first reported by Reuters last week, represents one of the most ambitious mergers in the technology sector yet. It values SpaceX at $1 trillion and xAI at $250 billion, a person familiar with the matter said.

The deal would bolster Musk's data-center ambitions as competition heats up further in the AI race with rivals such as Alphabet's GOOGL.O Google, Meta META.O, Amazon AMZN.O-backed Anthropic and OpenAI.
