- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer believes that Peter Mandelson, a former ambassador to the United States, should not be a member of the nation's upper house of the parliament but he cannot remove him, his spokesperson said on Monday.

"The prime minister believes that Peter Mandelson should not be a member of the House of Lords or use the title, however the prime minister does not have the power to remove it," the spokesperson told reporters when asked about new reports of his ties with the late U.S. sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

"He is calling on those in the Lords to work with the government to modernise disciplinary procedures in the House (of Lords) to allow for the easier removal of Lords who have brought the House into disrepute," the spokesperson said, adding Starmer had instructed the cabinet secretary to review all available information regarding Mandelson's contacts with Epstein.
