Greenland welcomes Davos developments, foreign minister says

- Greenland's Foreign Minister Vivian Motzfeldt said on Thursday she viewed recent developments at the World Economic Forum in Davos as "positive," though she noted that uncertainty persisted.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday stepped back from threats to impose tariffs as leverage to seize Greenland, and ruled out the use of force against the island, a part of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Motzfeldt in a statement said she and Danish Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen met with NATO chief Mark Rutte on Monday to outline their "red lines", explaining that sovereignty, territorial integrity and the Greenlandic people's self determination were not subject to negotiation.

"No formal agreement has been entered into regarding Greenland... The Government of Greenland has not asked the secretary general of NATO to negotiate on behalf of Greenland, but the secretary general has conveyed our position and red lines directly to President Trump," Motzfeldt said.

"From my perspective, this is positive news from Davos."
