US envoy Barrack says Damascus positioned to takeover security responsibilities

Jan 20 (Reuters) - U.S. envoy Tom Barrack said on Tuesday that Damascus is now both willing and positioned to take over security responsibilities, including taking control of Islamic State detention centers and camps in Syria.
"The greatest opportunity for the Kurds in Syria right now lies in the post-Assad transition under the new government led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa," he said in a post on X.
