Canada's Carney says Qatar investment agreement to be finalized by this summer

TORONTO, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Sunday an investment promotion and protection agreement with Qatar would be finalized by this summer and Qatar had agreed to invest in strategic projects in Canada.
The countries are also exploring closer partnership in defense and Canada had learned from Qatar's experience hosting the World Cup, Carney told reporters in Doha.
Separately, Carney on Friday agreed to lower tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in exchange for China lowering tariffs on canola. He said the agreement included the expectation that Chinese companies would invest in Canada's auto sector and would be reviewed in three years.
