SAO PAULO, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Brazilian antitrust body CADE said on Monday it had opened an investigation into the new terms of Meta's META.O WhatsApp business tool, adding it would also suspend the tool's new terms in Brazil while it evaluates the case.
There are potential anti-competitive practices arising from the new terms, CADE said.
These anti-competitive practices would be regarding the access and offering by artificial intelligence (AI) tool providers to WhatsApp users, it added.
CADE's investigation came after complaints from AI chatbot providers over terms imposed in October banning them from WhatsApp Business Solution, regulatory documents showed.
A WhatsApp spokesperson said the claims "are fundamentally wrong."
"The emergence of AI chatbots on the WhatsApp Business Platform overloads our systems, which were not designed for this type of support," they said.
