PARIS, Jan 12 (Reuters) - Bank of France Governor Francois Villeroy de Galhau offered on Monday his support to his embattled U.S. counterpart Jerome Powell, describing the head of the U.S. Federal Reserve as a "model of integrity".
The Trump administration has piled pressure on Powell, threatening to indict him over comment to Congress about a building renovation project, the latest development in a long-running effort Trump to push the Fed to dramatically lower rates.
"Regarding the Fed, I want to reiterate loudly and clearly my full solidarity and my admiration for Jay Powell, a model of integrity and commitment to the public interest," Villeroy said in a New Year's address to the French financial sector.
