- North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a message to Russian President Vladimir Putin to celebrate New Year's Day, North Korean state media KCNA reported on Saturday.

"I think that today's DPRK-Russia alliance ... is a precious common asset to be carried forward forever," KCNA quoted Kim as saying, using North Korea's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The message follows Putin's New Year's message to Kim, which KCNA reported two days ago.
