California in talks with autonomous vehicle operators over emergency response plans, regulator says

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec 26 (Reuters) -
- California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) says discussing with autonomous vehicle manufacturers "broader operational plans, including actions related to emergency response"
- DMV: "We are currently developing regulations that require manufacturers to ensure remote drivers and remote assistants meet high standards for safety, accountability, and responsiveness"
- DMV comments follow recent stalling of robotaxis from Alphabet's GOOGL.O Waymo at various San Francisco intersections during a widespread power outage that darkened traffic lights
