China says it is ready to improve US ties while safeguarding sovereignty

BEIJING, Dec 8 (Reuters) - China stands ready to work with the U.S. to improve ties while firmly safeguarding its sovereignty, security and development interests, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Monday.

Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun made the remarks in response to a question on Washington's new security strategy at a regular press conference.

China hopes the U.S. side will move in the same direction, strengthen dialogue and cooperation, properly manage differences and promote stable relations, Guo said.
