US health officials compiling examples of COVID vaccine harm during pregnancy, WSJ reports

ReutersSep 10, 2025 12:36 AM

- Top health officials under U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are compiling examples of harmful effects from COVID-19 vaccines on pregnant women to share with the public, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Marty Makary and the agency's top vaccine and biologics official Vinay Prasad are seeking to lift privacy protections around certain data on COVID-19 vaccines and pregnant women, the report said.

This might allow officials to share more specifics on what they consider potential harm linked to the vaccines, the report added.

The HHS did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

The reported moves come as Kennedy's newly appointed members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, which advises on vaccine use, prepare to meet on September 18 to consider recommendations on shots for hepatitis B, measles-mumps-rubella-varicella and respiratory syncytial virus.
